Stream Assessment and Restoration ...
Stream Assessment
Stream assessments are performed for a variety of reasons, including assigning priorities among many streams that are affected
by upland development and developing information needed for restoration activities. There are a wide range of physical and biological
assessment procedures and protocols. ATR Associates engineers and scientists provide comprehensive stream assessment services,
including erosion and stability analyses, geomorphologic characterization, and characterization by the Rapid Stream Assessment technique,
the Unified Stream Assessment approach (developed by the Center for Watershed Protection), and others.

Reference Reach Studies
Effective stream restoration or protection begins with the development of the characteristics of a stable stream for a given
environment. These characteristics are obtained by evaluating a relatively unaffected stream in the same or similar hydrologic
regime. ATR Associates engineers and scientists can develop reference reach information - the dimensions, plan and profile
characteristics - for your stream, to support natural stream restoration activities.

Natural Channel Design
ATR Associates emphasizes natural stream assessment and design principles. Our key personnel have attended Dave Rosgen's series of courses
and promote the principles developed by Luna Leopold, H. Lee Silvey, Dale Pfankuch, Dave Rosgen and others. We subscribe to the four 'Priorities'
of stream restoration, and seek to restore the ecological and hydrological character of streams with a minimum of 'hard' bank armoring.
